Zen
Chuang (pronounced “strong,” without the
s), MD,
is a
family physician, caring for people of all ages.
A doctor with a strong background in
conventional medicine and a holistic approach to health, Dr. Chuang
incorporates proven alternative therapies in his practice.
He strongly believes in patient education.
He also welcomes and encourages all of his patients to take active roles
in their own physical and psychological health.
Dr. Chuang has observed that
many of the illnesses and much of the unhappiness he sees in patients
can be alleviated or be prevented through simple steps. Given the hectic
lives most people lead, Dr. Chuang has also recognized his patients’
need to know more about health and improving their lives in the most
efficient manner possible and through clear language in lay terms. To
achieve these goals, Dr. Chuang wrote the chapters found in The Pearls
of Life to be given to his patients at the end of their visits as
reminders of their office discussion.
Dr. Chuang graduated from Brown University with honors and obtained an MD degree from Yale Medical School. After a residency at Brown and board certification in family medicine, he practiced medicine for years as a traveling doctor working in underserved rural and urban areas all over the United States. With extensive clinical experience in a variety of settings, he has cared for patients of diverse economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. In 2002, Dr. Chuang founded Lakeside Family Medicine in Massachusetts. He also teaches at Brown Medical School and has written chapters for medical textbooks. The American Board of Family Medicine awarded Dr. Chuang its prestigious Pisacano Fellowship, identifying him as a leader in primary care.
Before moving to the United States in 1985, Dr.
Chuang lived in Taiwan and Argentina.
He speaks Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese,
Spanish, and English.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time
with his family, friends and an ever energetic mutt named Cosmos. He
also takes great pleasure in watercolor painting, photography,
gardening, and several indoor and outdoor sports. An active painter and
illustrator, Dr. Chuang has had solo shows of his art in New England and
New York City, and his artwork has been included in published books and
calendars.
